Concrete counterweights for elevators are necessary in the design and installation of:
- elevators in residential buildings or office and shopping premises;
- freight elevators in retail warehouses.
Loads used in the counterweights can be of various shapes and sizes, which depends on the design of the frame where they will be installed. The maximum weight of a unit (one block) does not exceed 60 kilos. To establish the optimal weight of the counterweight, the load is adjusted by adding or removing individual blocks.
It is also worth mentioning that the safety margin of the counterweight should ensure safe operation both during the movement mode and when the elevator car lands onto the catchers. As practice shows, the most intense moment for the counterweight is its upswing when the elevator car is landing onto the catchers.
